Until recently I was running Mandrake 10.x and Ubuntu on a Compaq 7470 with 533mhz AMD-K3. It had a little more memory, but performance was bearable. I'd suggest more memory - 384mb would be good. I very much recommend you look at Elive. It is a live CD which uses enlightenment for the desktop and can be installed from the live CD with a click of a button (or two). I've been running it on a couple of machines as slow as 200 mhz, and it's really very nice. Enlightenment is quite different from MS, so it would take some getting used to. Elive is a Debian derivative, so updates, upgrades, installs are trivial using synaptic. |
