What "comfort" are you referring to? Do you check your system for
virus/spyware/rootkits regularly? I could do without the blissful
ignorance of most Windows users. What tool do you use to verify your
system is free from rootkits?

Note: comments inline.

You should check that the BIOS is not protecting your boot sector from
viruses. If it is locked to prevent changes, then no tool will be able to
change the partition table.
