Default newbie CentOS followup question

hello all and thanks for your help

i have successfully (with yr help) installed centos with xp pro

my question concerns the initial directories

do i make these directories myself - mkdir -or are they
further installed from the packages discs

i have a root directory, i installed all from the one basic CentOS
disk.

i also have 3 other centOS discs

so i believe i should create a /usr directory for myself
but do i create a /bin /dev /boot and the other directories

i can access easily the twm window(s)
but not the full x window or gnome
do these packages have to be installed individually?
