| Hello, I am looking for an USB Memory stick with transparent encryption, which does not only work under Windows but also under Linux. That means it's very likely that an encryption processor on that stick is required. Because of the Wear-Leveling problem and performance, I am not going to use traditional encryption software (on USB-memory sticks). Any feedback is appreciated very much. Thank you. John |

| <posted & mailed> Use TrueCrypt. It works for Linux, Windows, and soon Mac OS X and the software can be stored unencrypted on the USB key along with the encrypted information. Since the wear-leveling is implemented in the USB mass storage controller hardware on the device, you do not need to concern yourself with wear-leveling. Performance should not be an issue. On any reasonably modern computer, the CPUs ability to encrypt and queue for writing blocks of data will surpass the actual write-speed of the media. Media write-speed will be the bottle-neck.
