Default Installation difficulties

Hi,

I recently decided to try Debian's distribution on my machine, so I
downloaded the two DVD ISO images and burned them to disk, then booted
from the first disk and began the install.

It got to the "Install base system" section, then fell over with the
message "Unable to download deb<something>-i18n" (excuse the vagueness
but I don't have the piece of paper with the exact name to hand). The
item in question appears to be related to internationalisation.

Can anyone help me understand what is going on here, and why the
required item was not available on the DVD? As for "unable to
download" I'm not surprised, as there was no network connection plugged
in at the time I did the install!

Also, if there is an installation FAQ and/or a more appropriate forum
to ask such things, do please let me know.

Oh, and if I decide to give up and simply reformat the GNU/Linux
partition, how do I get rid of the LILO graphical boot menu, please?

Many thanks in advance,
klw

You would reload your copy of the MBR.
